An art-science collaboration between artists Sara Heywood & Jane Watt, and Dr David Chau

Artists Sara Heywood & Jane Watt, and science researcher Dr David Chau exchanged existing and new knowledge about the mulberry tree through conversations, walks and workshops with a wide range of participants. These included specialist knowledge from arborists, as well as amateur gardeners, and lived experience and memories from guardians of local mulberry trees, community groups and residents.

The artists and scientist employed a range of techniques in the field and lab including colour spectrum and 3D scanning and printing; as well as kitchen-based experiments to extract pigment including botanical ink-making, ghosting and skeletonization.
